Northern Illawarra Speech Pathology is an innovative practice, established by local speech pathologist, Pashenka Gribbin. Pashenka has over 20 years experience as a Speech Pathologist in both national and international settings. She combines this experience with expert and specialist knowledge gained from working in both the disability and education sectors to support students with speech, language and communication needs to thrive.

Over the course of her career, Pashenka has developed her clinical specialism in the areas of Complex Communication Needs and Alternative & Augmentative Communication. Working with a diverse range of school settings has given her unique insights into the most effective ways to collaborate with school teams in order to meaningfully include and support children to become confident & competent communicators, setting them up with the vital communication skills they will need for life.

Supportive
Sessions

Northern Illawarra Speech Pathology offers expert speech pathology support for individuals with complex learning profiles (school aged and above). This may include assessment, diagnosis and intervention for a range of speech, language and communication disorders including:

  • Complex Communication Needs
  • Language Disorders
  • Communication difficulties associated with Autism
  • Social Communication Difficulties

At Northern Illawarra Speech Pathology, assessment is a holistic process, gathering information from a range of sources (e.g. family, teachers, other therapists and member’s of your child’s team) in order to gain a balanced picture of your child’s strengths and weaknesses. The assessment process may include a range of observation, questionnaires and play-based interactions.

Client-centred consultation is at the core of our assessment (and intervention) process, to ensure individuals are able to participate fully throughout the process and share their insights.

At Northern Illawarra Speech Pathology, intervention is personalised to your child’s individual needs, utilising strong evidence-based principles when developing a therapy program. Intervention may take the form of individual or group sessions, at your home, your child’s school / setting or a clinical environment. It may also involve supporting the child’s primary caregiver or educator to develop their skills in how to create a positive communication environment and how to best assist the child generalise their newly acquired skills.

Northern Illawarra Speech Pathology is also able to provide a range of training sessions on a variety of topics related to speech, language and communication needs. Some examples include:

  • Key Word Sign Training
  • Introduction to Alternative & Augmentative Communication
  • The language of maths
  • Useful adjustments to support language and learning in the classroom
